Bungee!

I won the hostel pool competition last night and won a $50 bar tab. Drinks on me! I knew the pool table in work would turn me a profit one day...

I had such trouble falling asleep last night. Every time I got close, I'd imagine falling off Sky Tower and would wake up in a sweat. I tried everything, even accepting that I was falling to prevent the panic that kept waking me. No good.

Because of that, and two of my dormmates snoring in unison (which I heard despite 33DB earplugs), I didn't wake up until 9:30am so nearly missed the free Kiwi Experience bus trip around Auckland that I signed up for yesterday.

First stop on the bus was Auckland Harbour Bridge. After a short walk along the bridge with hard hat and safety harness (a bit overkill but hey ho), I somehow found myself up high in a "bungee pod" saying "yes, I'll do a bungee". What the...

I wasn't alone. Brian from Ireland also agreed to jump. The others on the bus looked at us like we're crazy. I would have been certified crazy if they knew what I went through yesterday...

I'll let the photos and --> this video of my jump! <-- do the talking.

Taking off the fleece. I'm well 'ard, me.

The leap taken from a little way beneath the pod.

Words can't describe it. The freefall was amazing and the loud crack of the rope as I was being hauled back up was disconcerting. But was it as scary as the Sky Walk yesterday? To put it into perspective, no!

As for the other stops on the Kiwi Experience bus, I don't know, I was too buzzed from the jump to really care!

How high was the jump? Did I ever tell you I (co-)held a european bungee record of 120m for a time. (yawn).
