Day 1 Mulga Adventure: King's Canyon

Today was the first day of a 3-day camping trip in the outback.

We started off fairly subdued. This wasn't helped by the ridiculously early start (5am for most) and poor choice of music by Carlos, the "older" gentleman on the tour who sat next to the driver and therefore got to control the iPod.

After a quick camel ride (very quick!) and a change of DJ, things started to get going. Tom, our guide, kicked things off by getting each one of us to say a few words about ourselves then write or draw something on the window. I filled my window with an essay though some just wrote their name.

We then played Outback Olympics! The bus was divided into teams of four. Once each team had a name and a slogan, the games began. The first game was to create a kangeroo out of paper just by ripping or folding. My kangeroo, which sported a nice 3D effect, was put forward to represent our team and won silver medal!

I didn't understand the Good Train, Bad Train game at all. The idea was for teams to propose a train between two cities. If the train was good then a point was awarded, though Tom wouldn't say why a train was good. Fortunately, Charlie in my team had played this game before and knew that good trains passed through our current location.

After the music quiz and a sandwich on the bus, we arrived at King's Canyon.

Whoops!

After a trek through King's Canyon, we continued in the bus the hundreds of kilometers towards Kata Tjuta National Park.

Outback Olympics continued. For this round, points were awarded to teams who successfully lobbed melons at road signs!

We continued and came across Uluru! But wait, something seems strange...

Ah yes, this is Fooluru, not Uluru!

Finally, camp. There were no drinking games or ghost stories tonight due to the early start tomorrow. Despite that, I decided to look at the stars instead of sleeping. So many shooting stars! This is the first time I've seen the Milky Way with my own eyes. Spectacular!
