Ap Lei Chau

I wandered off the beaten track today. I took a bus to Aberdeen, originally called Hong Kong Village. Early settlers in that area mistakenly thought the whole island was called Hong Kong, so the village was renamed Aberdeen after the Scottish fishing port to avoid confusion. History lesson over. From Aberdeen, I walked over the bridge to Ap Lei Chau, the most densely populated island in the world! It was hot, crowded and extremely fishy (er, lots of fish), though I was the only recognisable tourist.

Most of today was spent on Hong Kong island, even though my hostel is actually in Kowloon. I walked until my body could take no more, taking in much of the north coast, then stopped in Wan Chai district and ate.

No, gorged. I gorged myself. Another good lunch was chased by a five course meal (duck and melon, soup, sirloin steak, profiteroles then coffee) costing just a British tenner. Bargain!

My shoulders are a little burnt from the vest (some would say, "muscle top") I wore yesterday. Ouch. It's so humid here. It's nice in small doses but wanting to walk around means I'm having to suffer the heat.
